We believe at Henderson State University that our students ARE our legacy. In an effort to do more to help support their future success, we developed the Student Legacy Advancement Program. Given that Student Managed Funds across the country have tended to outperform the market, we felt like we could help each other.
The program works like this: for any of the four donation levels to a foundation account specifically dedicated to the student managed fund and school of business scholarships, we will email you immediately when the student fund decides to buy or sell stocks. You will also have access to all of the students’ write-ups on the stocks we buy or sell. Given our annual return since we updated the program two years ago exceeded that of the market by 14% per year, which is better than 99% of all money managers, we thought knowing EXACTLY when and HOW we traded could prove profitable for you.
For the gold, platinum and diamond sponsors, we will include their name as part of a rotating list of sponsors on the monitors for the Student trading lab when it is complete as well as an invitation and two paid seats at our annual awards ceremony in the spring. Platinum and diamond sponsors will also get to choose to whom they donate the additional funds (in excess of $1,000) and are encouraged to hand out the scholarships to the recipients of their awards. The two groups available for scholarships will include students from the major the donor picks, or deserving children who otherwise would not be able to attend the investment/aviation summer camp due to financial constraints.
Please remember two things. Not a dime of your donation goes to anyone but amazing young adults who want a chance at a better life. And secondly, while you are getting a chance to trade like we do, all the decisions to buy or sell are up to you. Also, don’t be surprised when we sit for periods of time and do very little investing. I try to teach my students that while we do everything possible to tilt the odds of winning in our favor, sometimes the odds just aren’t in your favor and you must be patient to win.
